SET IN-BETWEEN FALL AND WINTER...

STORY OF THE LOCATION, BRAND, AND CONSUMER

IMPOSING ENIGMA

Location Story

In Section K of Washington's Pacific Crest Trail, Stevens Pass to Rainy Pass, it is well known for being an imposing enigma.

Due to winter's arrival bringing avalanche risks, the in-between of fall and winter create the only time to experience the rare snowy wonderland, an enigma few hikers have experienced in Section K

PERPETUAL FORTITUDE

Brand Story

Mammut is a perpetual Switzerland brand that has been fortified for 160 years.

By trekking through the Swiss Alps, it has experienced moments similar to Section K, inspiring Mammut's modern innovation.

RELENTLESS VORACITY

Consumer Story

The Mountaineers are relentless hikers and backpackers who possess a voracity for growth and exploration that propels them forward despite the obstacles, advancing their skills from novice to intermediate.

Unyielding in their pursuit of peak experiences, they embrace the hardships of trails with resilience and
tenacity, never faltering in their quest for adventure.

A product line to help the consumer push forward using their lower legs makes the most sense, making hiking pants and shoes the best choice

What if snow records beauty?

How could new technology help convert the sport's movement and weather into energy?

How could cold be discipline?

How could the sharpness of weather help push ourselves to strive for more?

Extra Terrain

Laborious Challenge

Injury Risks

In fall-winter of section K, extra terrain — like ice, snow and water — produced make it a laborious challenge. Injury risks are heightened with fatigue playing a large part into it.

TENG Fabric

Piezoelectric Fabric

TENG Fabric

DOUBLE LAYERING

By underlaying the TENG fabric, it allows for it to transfer the electricity to the piezoelectric fabric to generate vibrations.

Piezoelectric Fabric

Vibrations

Piezoelectric materials generate vibrations when an electric current is applied to them. These vibrations can help turn cold into a gentler surface by creating a dynamic barrier that repels lactic acid and the weather.

TENG fabric uses expansions and contractions between the areas of contact to generate the electricity to power piezoelectric material.

In order for mountaineers to stay relentless, they need to power forwards with their lower body.

The areas of the leg that push a hiker forward are the quad, hamstring, calf muscle, and sometimes parts of the knee.

RESEARCH AND IDEATIONS

PIEZOELECTRIC PLACEMENT
I studied areas of the leg that push a hiker forward, which are the quad, hamstring, calf muscle, and parts of the knee.
I used piezoelectric materials in order to help vibrate and warm-up those muscles to reduce injury by helping them stay loose and comfortable in the cold.

SHAPE EXPERIMENTATION

I drew inspiration from the key muscles engaged in movement and positioned the piezoelectric fabric to support those areas, sustaining muscle longevity.

MELTING SHAPE

image.png

The icicle shape represents the transition of ice melting into water. The temperature transition of an icicle melting resonates with the piezoelectric material and design due to the core factor of the material making a user's leg muscles warm and fire up.

Efficiency

While pushing forward, the piezoelectric weave is forced to expand and contract. This prevents injuries, as the vibration effect is being applied to the same muscles that are expanding and contracting the TENG fabric.
