Phase 1: WARM UP

During the warmup phase, players aim to activate all the muscles they’ll use in a real match, while also staying mindful of keeping their body temperatures down in the Australian Open’s intense heat.

Phase 2: COMPETING

While competing, players are in constant motion, quickly covering the court and hitting the ball explosively. The never ending movement in the intense heat often leads to heavy sweating and increases the risk of cramping.

BLAZING HUMIDITY

The Problem

In the Australian Open, heat and humidity causes major problems such as excessive sweating and cramping to the
contestants. The event’s starting date is during January, which brings the harsh summer sun and sweltering moisture of Australia’s environment.

SWEAT MAP

Sweat is an annoyance for every user while wearing apparel in blazing
environments. The sweat map helps figure out which areas need to stay ventilated to help the moisture on the attire to clear out quickly.

HEAT MAP

While playing, certain muscle areas are used excessively to
push and pull, creating an excessive of heat from them motions. Cramps from heat may affect the user if not cooled properly.

CORE CONCEPTS

Andrew - Updated Li-Ning Midterm_Page_11_Image_0002.png

Concept 1: FLOWING ASPECT

Cutouts at the looser fabric at the bottom of the shirt/pants act as a pathway for allowing air to flow freely in and out of the shirt. This lets fresh air be drawn in at the bottom, creating a cycle for temperature and moisture regulation.

Concept 2: VENTILATION ZONES

Certain zones of the shirt/pants that make contact with the skin are designed to
be ventilated, specifically targeting areas that sweat and generate the most heat, discouraging discomfort and cramps.

Concept 3: REFLECTING SEAL

The jacket is meant to reflect heat and light using reflective material while also sealing the normal body temperature. This allows a player to properly warm up without overheating.

RIPPLING MIST

The Shape

Australia, known for its proximity to major oceans and seas, has cooler coastal areas influenced by constant ocean
waves and sea mist. These natural elements symbolize the constant release of moisture and heat, helping people feel refreshed and free from sweat and discomfort.
